Joness in Asia Posted by Picasa

My son, Joness, and I have been blessed
to travel to ten countries over the past year.
He went to Cuba, and to Cambodia, Thailand
and Vietnam. I hear something different in his
voice now. Maybe it's the kindness of his spirit
beginning to catch up with the wildness of his
youth. This is a song I wrote for him.

Two Minutes Of Silence

If you stand inside the murder place
If you walk the killing field
The lines of woe may leave your face
A kindness be revealed
It is kindness that renews a man
When he accepts his wrongs
He answers to a greater plan
And sings the deeper songs

Two minutes of silence
Two minutes of stone
It's hard to welcome kindness
But it won't leave you alone

If you pause in the old prison
Where tortures echo still
You will know the sun has risen
Not of habit, but of will
If you listen you may hear them
The ones with healing ways
You'll know when you are near them
They've waited all your days

Two minutes of silence
Two minutes of stone
It is hard to welcome kindness
But it won't leave you alone

My son saw his face in the water
Where those youths were shot
He sat at the feet of the Buddha
At the temple in Ankor Wat
He searched to find the words to say
The feelings that came up
He said his life was changed that day
Behold, the kindness cup

Two minutes of silence
Two minutes of stone
It is hard to welcome kindness
But it won't leave you alone
It won't leave you alone

My religion is very simple.
My religion is kindness.
