On My Way To You

.
What kind of song is this? It began with an image
of eggshells floating beside a fishing boat, an image
that didn't make the final cut. It ends with an angel
bent-over, a kind of Sisyphus with no Pegasus,
shouldering a star. There is a lot of sky in the song,
and water, and longing. As I admitted my wrongs,
it quietly became a love song, and, in another and
very different way, a hymn.

Brow of a longing
Eyes of a gypsy
Hands of aurora
Heaven to know
How to keep singing
Running on empty
The bad and the buena
Colors we show
I'm on my way to you
On my way to you

Out on the Atlantic
Birds of the morning
Old borealis
Relinquishing light
Breathe and be silent
Lessons I'm learning
The days only give us
Their version of night
On my way to you
I'm on my way to you

Floor of the ocean
Plates being shaken
The axis, she rattles
The spin isn't true
Go with the motion
Admit I'm mistaken
Shadows aren't shadows
Blue isn't blue
On my way to you
I'm on my way to you

Brow of a knowing
Eyes of the arrow
Heaven must shoulder
The weight of each star
How we keep going
The way is so narrow
As I grow older
I know where you are
On my way to you
I'm on my way to you
