The Gardener
Restless now, my sleep is brief
My dreams have given way to grief
I wake before the rooster calls
My garden made of miracles
The closest of my friends is gone
God help me to carry on
My humble garden to repair
I stay behind to water here
The ocean of the summer sky
The sun the star I'm steering by
Half the rain and half the dew
The growing season gone askew
The birds have gotten used to me
I'm out before the light you see
They've come to know the hat and man
The handkerchief and water can
The country I once knew is gone
Conquered by a lesser one
Gone the ancient shining eye
That used to light the evening sky
Old Earth, you are the work I do
I bury seed inside of you
When heaven feels so far away
You remind me how to pray
Restless now, my sleep is brief
My dreams have given way to grief
I wake before the rooster calls
My garden made of miracles
The closest of my friends is gone
God help me to carry on
My humble garden to repair
I stay behind to water here
