In Texas, my oldest sister's husband had a cup like that. It was white with an American Airlines logo under the glaze.
He wouldn't drink his coffee from any other cup even after it had several chips around the rim. We predicted an eminent demise for that cup for at least the last 20 years of its existance.
He didn't mind the chips but a small crack appeared and slowly grew longer, until one day, after 40 years of faithful service, the cup splint asunder in a way that no man could join together.
My brother-in-law chose a new cup, blue in color. He was careful though to never say the old one had been replaced.
